Christchurch DBA Open (Classical)

Last weekend I attended the first round of the Christchurch DBA Open.  The competition is split into two, one day rounds – the first being armies of the Ancient/Classical period.  The concluding round will be later this year.  Anyhow after a long time away from any sort of wargaming (small children, work, & life in general) I was a bit rusty but looking forward to 5 games of the rapid fire DBA 3.0 ruleset. OSS Tech Recovery

After another fairly lengthy hiatus from the tabletop I managed to sneak in a game of Infinity (a 28mm sci-fi skirmish for those of you unfamiliar) round at Jason’s place.  This game is part of a really neat global campaign that Corvus Belli are currently running called Operation Flamestrike – so the fate of the world (well Paradiso) was literally at state! Back on the Wagon at Warclouds

Well after what feels like an eternity I finally got some wargaming done today at one of the local major competitions Warclouds Over Woolston.  It has been a fairly hectic few weeks with a family beach holiday, travel for work, and also moving into a new role at work – so wargaming has been on the back burner.  Anyway here are a few happy snaps from the DBA comp, which despite me missing half of due to other commitments still saw me getting in 3 games with my Yi Korean army. The Defense of Gallia

I got down to the Cavs last week for another couple of DBA games with Brian.  I’m planning to play in the DBA comp at Warclouds coming up in Feb so I was eager to get in some more games with the Gauls.  Since their last outing I’d decided to rebase my 2 stands of 4Wb Gaesatae ‘naked warriors’ to the more mobile ‘Fast’ 3Wb.  This would give my army a bit more mobility.  Brian bought along his Romans again for a chance of revenge, but to mix things up a bit and give my Gauls something a bit different to fight against for our first game he wheeled out another historical opponent – his Thracians. Massacre at Coruscant

Well the first wargaming of 2016 and once again it was Grand Moff Jon in command of the might of the Imperial navy against my plucky Rebel fleet in another battle of Armada.  After the fairly dismal performance of the Rebels in their last outing Rebel high command had rethought their strategy, particularly concerning the employment of the new MC80 Star Cruiser. A Frosty Grave

So I caught up with Jason, Jamie, and Andy the other day at Jason’s place where we cranked up a couple of games of Frostgrave.  For anybody unfamiliar with Frostgrave think a modernised and streamlined Mordheim.  Basically 28mm fantasy skirmish between warbands led by wizards set against the backdrop of a ruined city that is in the process of ‘thawing’ out, revealing, treasure, monsters, and all sorts of other trouble!
